I have had the opportunity to escape the Boston cold weather and seek refuge in paradise… well at least for a week. Cartagena is a city is full of history, romance, and charm. The old walled city transports you back to Spanish colonial times through its architecture and cobble stones with horse-drawn carriages. The white sandy beaches of the Rosario Islands are perfect whether you are looking to lay under the sun or explore the sea life in its magnificent coral reefs.
He tenido la oportunidad de escapar del frío de Boston y buscar refugio en el paraíso… bueno, al menos por una semana. Cartagena es una ciudad llena de historia, romance y encanto. La antigua ciudad amurallada te transporta a la época colonial española a través de su arquitectura y adoquines con carruaje. Las playas de arena blanca de las Islas del Rosario son perfectas para broncearse bajo el sol o explorar la vida marina en los arrecifes de coral.

Seafood Delight
The past few weeks I have been indulging in some seafood delights that have more than satisfied my appetite. The mix of oceanic meats, textures, and colors all work to create a harmony of flavors that satisfy my palate.
Sofia’s in New York City’s Little Italy may be to blame for starting this obsession. A previous hungry quest to find the Boston bus in Chinatown led me to this gem that I crave weekend after weekend. The Spaghetti alla Gamberoni Fra Diavola is by far one of my favorite dishes in the world. The marinara sauce has just enough spice to complement the sautéed shrimp and fresh pasta. The consistency of the sauce is perfect and it coats each spaghetti with tantalizing flavor. The Arragosta fra Diavola magnificently combines these flavors with other fruits of the sea such as mussels, clams, calamari, scallops, and a lobster. Combine these plates with a glass of wine and finish your meal off with the most amazing tiramisu. This restaurant is truly a hidden gem.
After my New York trip I visited Sibling Rivalry in Boston’s South End and tried the Jumbo Scallops with Chile Relleno from Chef David’s menu along with Chef Bob’s Baked “Ritzy” Cod with Poached Baby Shrimp.
Among other restaurants serving seafood delights, the Island Creek Oyster Bar in Boston is definitely worth mentioning. The fresh array of oysters is bound to convert oyster haters to oyster fanatics. However, lets not forget the decadent crab cake that could possibly be Boston’s best.
If you were to ask me what my favorite trend this season is, I wouldn’t hesitate to tell you it is the “peplum” trend. If you still haven’t noticed, peplums have been incorporated onto various garments such as blouses, dresses, skirts and is characterized by a ruffle at the height of the hip and waist. The peplum style has not only invaded the runways but also the red carpet. This trend proves to be both feminine and chic, so get on it and incorporate this trend into your closet as soon as possible…you will look like a modern goddess!
Si me preguntas cual es mi tendencia favorita para esta temporada, no dudare en decirte que es la tendencia “peplum” o peplo. Si aun no la has visto, esta tendencia esta incorporada en varias prendas como blusas, vestidos, faldas y se caracteriza por un volante a la altura de la cadera y cintura. El estilo peplo no solo ha invadió las pasarelas sino también las alfombras rojas. Esta tendencia resulta ser tan femenina como chic, así que ponte las pilas y incorpórala en tu armario lo más pronto posible… te veras como una diosa moderna!
